Know-how for automated systems

Automated systems

Increasing competition and tight market conditions are placing ever greater demands on production. More productivity, more flexibility and lower costs are the order of the day.
The technology of the KUKA Aerospace Group is able to meet these demands. We design state-of-the-art production lines with automated, robot-based systems that offer a whole range of convincing advantages. These include reproducible quality, maximum process reliability, optimal process speed and maximum cost-effectiveness.

Manufacturing system

Flexible drilling and riveting of structural components for wings. Up to 8 different wing components, measuring from 2-6 m in length, can be machined in this fully-automatic system. The two cooperating robots pick up the clamped component from a single-axis positioning system and guide it under a stationary drilling/riveting tool. Here, the exact component positioning is supported by an Adaptive Guidance System. This allows uninterrupted machining of components. All robot programs and the process control can be created offline.

Adaptive Guidance

The Adaptive Guidance System has been specially developed to meet the high requirements of the aerospace industry in terms of exact robot positioning. The system consists of a non-contact measurement system integrated directly into the production line that continuously checks and corrects the robot position in a so-called "closed loop".
