KS Flex Roller

KS Flex Roller

The KS Flex Roller was specially developed by KUKA for thin metal applications (<3 mm). Due to a maximum contact pressure of up to 1000 N, no problems arise even by multi layer joints. The contact pressure is generated by means of special-purpose pneumatic cylinders, which allow almost hysteresis-free contact and/or compensating motion. By means of the two opposed cylinders, the contact pressure can be programmed within a range of 0 to 1000 N at will. Should the application concerned call for particularly sensitive contact pressure, the servomotor-driven contact pressure module can be employed.

The pressure roller is made of a special type of alloy which is extremely resistant to wear and heat. In addition, when compared to conventional materials, there is considerably less adhesion of weld spatter.

The illustration above shows the basic version of the KS Flex Roller. Thanks to the open-type design, the user is able to configure the KUKA Flex Roller as required.

technical data

  • max. contact pressure. : 1.000 N
  • Weight: ca. 44 kg
  • Diameter of roller: 50 - 140 mm

In addition to the basic version, KUKA can supply a variety of configured solutions for a wide range of laser applications.

function module

The principle on which the KS Flex Roller is based ensures that no gap is created when the metal sheets are pressed together in the welding zone while, at the same time, keeping the focal point constant.

By means of the integrated function module, the KS Flex Roller can be adapted to ideally suit the specific welding task.

  • Sensor system fo rseam tracking
  • Additional wire feed
  • Laser stripe sensor for measuring comonents
  • Supply of shield gas on one/both sides
  • Cross Jet
  • Flexible focal length - depending on applications, various optical systems and focal lengths can be integrated
  • Flexible laser beam source (e.g. CO2-, Nd:YAG-, diode laser and/or disk laser or fibre laser)
  • Contact roller, variable in size and/or dockable
  • Dockable back roller with linear motion
  • Pneumatic or servomotor-driven pressure module
